Chanctonbury Ring is an Iron Age hill fort situated in the South Downs in West Sussex. The famous ring of beech trees was planted in 1760 by Charles Goring. On the site lie the remains of a Roman Temple, and it said to be the most haunted place in the South Downs. A local legend says that walking seven times around the ring will summon the devil, carrying a bowl of soup.
